I use to love Halloween. I mean, I still love Halloween it's just different now that I'm not planning elaborate costumes every year for the kids.
All the credit for these costumes goes to my friend Steph who put them together for Dan and his 2nd cousin Lily. They got quite a lot of attention as they trick or treated through College Square Mall in 2000.
My friend Bev made Waverly's monarch costume in 2002. She was a beautiful butterfly. Those wings and the tulle skirt were amazing. To say Dan loved his Spiderman costume would be an understatement. I specifically recall a morning a few weeks after Halloween. Dan came downstairs dressed for preschool in pants and a long sleeved shirt and I noticed something sticking out from his collar. He had put on his Spiderman suit underneath his clothes. That memory still makes me laugh.
2003 and 2004 were kind of slow years for us. Nothing too fancy. Waverly was a butterfly again in 2004 but a little more low key. Dan was Harry Potter, scar and all!
It was fun to see them interact as their characters in 2005. They really played it up for me. I made Waverly's costume this year. I believe I finished it about an hour before we headed out to take pictures and leave for trick or treating. (I am the queen of procrastination, especially when it comes to sewing projects.)
I told them I wanted to go traditional with costumes in 2006. Scary was the theme. Of course Wav still had to have a little glam with the feathers and the make up. Dan was the perfect grim reaper. You can see it but his head is shaved bald under his hood!
2007 was the year of the red devil! We went all out with the wig and the eyelashes and the dress. This was probably my all time favorite costume. Dan required a little less prep however I did sew his alien hands which he LOVED! It's hard to see in the pictures but they were made with iridescent, shinny material. He scared many a little kid that year!
Jason Voorhies and a Witch went trick or treating with their friends for the first time in 2008. I was left at home, alone, passing out candy. It was a sad year for me, they were growing up.
2009 was the final year for costumes. We went all out with Dan's ghost costume. I think he would have been happier just wearing a sheet over his head but that wasn't what I had in mind! I loved his makeup and the hair and the spiderweb in his hair. He hated it but he was a trooper and played along. Waverly was a bad fairy. He wings were made of black feathers (honestly they were a little creepy) and the black wig with pig tails were perfect!
